Este fim-de-semana estivemos à conversa com João Jara, o responsável da Birds and Nature que nos explicou em que consistia este conceito.

Como surgiu a Birds and Nature?

A empresa surgiu da minha paixão pela área e o facto de reconhecer o potencial no mercado.

Em relação ao mercado? Qual tem sido a sua evolução?

Temos tido geralmente uma quota de 70% de estrangeiros e 30%  de portugueses, se bem que nos últimos 2 anos essa diferença atenuou-se devido à crise. Actualmente já está a voltar gradualmente aos valores que tínhamos inicialmente.

Qual o local onde fazem os vossos passeios?

Geralmente é aqui no Estuário do Tejo, mas fazemos passeios para todo o país.

Qual é geralmente a duração de um passeio?

Depende muito daquilo que o nosso cliente pretende com o passeio temos passeios de meio-dia, um dia, cinco dias e até mais. 

A quem se destinam os vossos passeios?

Ao público em geral, o nosso público-alvo são pessoas que não têm conhecimentos de birdwatching. Na maioria das vezes temos pessoas que pretendem apenas observar as aves no seu habitat natural.Também temos clientes que procuram observar uma ave em específico, o flamingo é uma das aves que mais procuradas para observação.

Quanto aos temas dos vossos passeios consistem apenas no Birdwatching?

O nosso foco é sempre o Birdwatching, mas ocasionalmente organizamos passeios com o nome "Actividades, aves e mais" onde não observamos apenas aves mas outros animais no seu habitat natural, como por exemplo os golfinhos.

Em relação a conselhos, para quem pretende iniciar a sua própria empresa?

Principalmente investigar o mercado, a oferta e a procura. E depois ter a certeza de que temos a formação e experiência certa para entrar no ramo. Vi algumas empresas de birdwatching fechar porque não tinham o mínimo conhecimento acerca de aves.

Last weekend we interviewed João Jara, the manager of Birds and Nature that explained to us the concept of the company.

How did Birds and Nature appeared?

This company started because of my passion about birdwatching and the recognition of the potential market.

What has been the evolution of the market?

In the past we had 70% of foreign clients and 30% of Portuguese, but in the last two years that difference with the crisis. In the beginning of this year the percentage is gradually coming back to the old values.

Where do you organize your tours?

Most of the times we organize it in Tagus Firth, but we also organize them throughout the country.

What is the duration of a tour?

It depends of what our client wants. We have half-day tour, full-day tours, 5 days or even more. 

And who are these tours for?

Everyone, our target are people that do not have any know-how in birdwatching. Most of the times the client just wants to observe the habitats in general. But we also have clients that want to observe specific specie; the flamingo is a good example of that. 

What about the themes of the tours? Is it only about birdwatching?

Our focus is always bird watching but occasionally, we organize tours with the name "Actividades, aves e mais" where we not only observe the birds but also other animals such as dolphins.

What about advice for people that look forward to start a company?

Mainly investigate the market, the offer and the demand.
